After getting the alternator swapped, the car still sounded like it had a supercharger. This combined with a bearing-ish noise at higher RPMs, led me to believe that the water pump was at fault. I was a bit worried about this job. Everybody on the forums went on about how awful a Fiero water pump swap is. Even worse, I couldn't see exactly where the hard part was. Despite this, I set off to work. Believe it or not, the actual job was completely uneventful. I took the old pump off, put the new one on, and it didn't leak. What was a bit confusing was that it didn't fix the noise. Given that I had replaced all two components driven by the V-belt, I concluded that it must not be something important.
